an empty wish

“We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”

Such a simple phrase can carry what feels like the weight of the world wrapped and packaged in undeniable disappointment. I began my journey seeking to become a teacher with Teach for America six months ago, and today with that simple phrase it came to a close. After tediously pouring myself into the application itself and four weeks later nervously taking the phone interview, I received word that I will not be a corps member.

Despite wishing that the final consensus had come back differently, I am bit relieved. I no longer have to fear picking up my life in 8 months and moving to a city I have never been to. I don’t have to move away from the roots that I have established in Minneapolis. But, I will say that Teach for America is truly missing out.

I would have been great.
